Fall 2023 (Oct 6-8)

The Roaring Creek Invitational is an alpine trail run and party that takes place in the Central Cascades to maintain community, inspire fitness, and support local causes.

Who is RCI for?

Short answer: RCI is for everyone!

Do you love running and regularly participate in trail races? RCI is for you.

Are you interested in trail racing but don’t know where to start? RCI is for you.

Do you want to go for a walk in the woods and explore the landscape around Basecamp? RCI is for you.

Do you want to hang out with the Basecamp Community, eat delicious local food, support the runners, and dance all night? That’s what RCI is all about!!

RCI has an 8 hour cut off time

So whether you want to run, walk, ramble, or frolic, you are welcome. There’s no time pressure (unless you want there to be).

Or, if you want to volunteer and support the runners, we have lots of available volunteer positions!

And this year, RCI is even more kid friendly!

Bring your kids!! This year we are offering RCI Kids Camp in collaboration with Mountain Sprouts.

Mountain Sprouts will be hosting a Kids Camp at Basecamp Cascadia for kids aged PreK - 9 years-old, while parents compete in the Roaring Creek Invitational! Kids will have a blast with Mountain Sprouts Outdoor Educators while they play outside, enjoy nature arts and crafts and build community with other kids in the outdoors!

2021 Summary

  • All proceeds were donated to the Indigenous Roots and Reparation Foundation.

  • Wenatchi Wear developed an incredible RCI 2021 hat for participants and volunteers!

  • There were two distances! 15K and 30K. All distances included aid stations and support from our volunteers.

  • The joy was palpable.

  • 2023 will be even better with a mobile sauna and wood fired pizza oven!

RCI is full of goodies, like a wood fired sauna!

Are you ready to steam?

@seatsu.sauna will be at RCI for pre-run and post-run rejuvenation!

We’re very excited to partner with our friends at Seatsu Sauna to bring their mobile sauna to the Roaring Creek Invitational.

Just wait until after running 30k; your muscles are going to love getting in a hot, steamy sauna (and then into the cold plunge).

Friday

Arrive at the venue anytime after noon. Come say hey at the cabin, lie/brag about how out-of-shape you are, and pour yourself a compensatory kombucha or beer. At some point, explore the 20 acre property and set up your tent at one of the many prepared campsites. The afternoon/evening will brim with unstructured chilling, lawn games, and the one pre-race task of making yourself a nametag at the art table. Dinner will be served at 6, and will remain available until late to accommodate night time arrivals.

Dance

The dancing and the party is kinda the point of the whole thing, the shared accomplishment infusing the festivities with a uniquely dreamy joy. Some experienced runners credit the dancing for diminishing the soreness they usually feel the day after. Stay up as late as your body will let you.
